Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how 98895 NL Corp, operating as Mauzy Weather (“Mauzy,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, and protects personal information when you use the Mauzy Weather website and mobile application (together, the “Service”). We are based in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and we handle personal information in accordance with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy law.
1. Who we are
The Service is operated by 98895 NL Corp (“the Company”), a corporation registered in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, which carries on business under the trade name Mauzy Weather. For any privacy question or request, you can reach us at hello@mauzyweather.ca. This inbox also serves as the contact point for our Privacy Officer.
2. Information we collect
We only collect information that we actually need. Depending on how you use the Service, this may include the following.
a. Waitlist / launch list sign-ups
If you join our pre-launch waitlist, we collect the information you choose to provide:
- Email address (required) — so we can let you know when Mauzy launches;
- Name (optional) — only if you choose to give it;
- Town or community (optional) — only if you choose to give it; and
- a record of your consent to be contacted, along with the date of sign-up.
We use this information solely to contact you about the launch of Mauzy Weather and related updates. You can ask us to remove you at any time (see Section 7).
b. Dialect submissions
If you submit a Newfoundland and Labrador word or saying through our submission form, we collect the saying, its meaning, and — only if you choose to provide them — the region where it’s used and the name you’d like to be credited under. Please do not include sensitive personal information in a submission. Submitted sayings may be reviewed and, if selected, added to the Service.
c. Location inside the app
To show you a local forecast, the Mauzy app lets you choose your community from a list of Newfoundland and Labrador locations. We do not use your device’s GPS or precise location, and we do not track your movements.
d. Anonymous usage counts
To understand roughly how many people use the app and in which regions, the app may record an anonymous usage signal: a randomly generated app identifier (not tied to your name, email, or device identity), the general region or community selected, and the date. This information does not identify you and is used only for aggregate counts.
e. Information collected automatically by our providers
Like virtually all websites and apps, our hosting and infrastructure providers may automatically process limited technical data (such as IP address and basic request logs) for security, fraud prevention, and to deliver the Service. We do not use this data to build a profile of you, and we do not combine it with the information above to identify you.
3. What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
- We do not use third-party advertising networks or behavioural ad tracking.
- We do not use marketing or analytics cookies on our website.
- We do not collect your precise device location.
4. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to: operate and improve the Service; contact waitlist subscribers about the launch and updates; review and, where appropriate, publish dialect submissions; understand aggregate, anonymous usage; and meet our legal and security obligations. We rely on your consent for waitlist communications, and you may withdraw that consent at any time.
5. Service providers and where information is stored
We use trusted third-party providers to run the Service, and we share information with them only as needed for them to provide their service to us:
- Supabase — database and storage. Our data is hosted in a Canadian region (Central Canada).
- Vercel — website and application hosting and content delivery.
- Google Fonts — serves the typefaces used on our pages.
- Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) — source of the underlying weather data (a Government of Canada service).
- If you download the app, the relevant app store (Apple or Google) will handle your download under its own privacy policy.
Some providers may process limited technical data outside Canada. Where that happens, your information may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction in which it is processed. We take reasonable steps to work with providers that maintain appropriate safeguards.
6. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law. Waitlist information is kept until you ask us to remove it or until it is no longer needed for launch communications. Anonymous usage counts are retained in aggregate.
7. Your rights and choices
Under PIPEDA, you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it, and to withdraw your consent to our use of it (subject to legal and contractual limits). You can unsubscribe from launch emails at any time, and you can ask us to delete your waitlist information. To make any of these requests, email hello@mauzyweather.ca and we will respond within a reasonable time.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information to protect it against loss, theft, and unauthorized access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
11. Contact us
If you have any question, concern, or complaint about your privacy or this policy, please contact us at hello@mauzyweather.ca. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
